RH is Making Private Jets and Yachts for Charter

The brand formerly known as Restoration Hardware (yes, that Restoration Hardware) is taking a new approach to luxury with its foray into developing private jets and yachts for personal charter.

The RH One, is RH’s Gulfstream G650 private charter jet. It seats twelve passengers and the interior is outfitted with RH’s signature luxury Fashion. The cabin is made out of brushed European pale white oak, which is unique to this private charter jet. The lounge chairs are covered in charcoal linen above the wool, silk, and cashmere floor coverings. The wood cabin is enveloped by the exterior’s champagne and phantom gray palette.

“Aesthetically, the most important thing was to eliminate as many visually distracting elements as possible,” said CEO and Chairman of RH Gary Friedman. In a September 2020 interview with Architectural Digest, Friedman talks about design philosophy when it comes to such a unique undertaking as a private jet. “How do we make a cabin that is beautiful and simple, that is quiet, that enables us to relax?”

Friedman’s inquiry is full of purpose. Before the RH One is available for private charter, RH executives will be using the plane to work in between travel. Friedman mentions that the luxury company is also working on a number of future projects, such as a New York RH Guesthouse concept and a $105 million real estate plan to build a full community in Aspen. The company is also looking to expand to Europe, opening several galleries in several countries.

The RH Three, the 127-foot expedition yacht, was designed by Turkish builder RMK Prime in 2003. In 2016, Belgian architect Vincent Van Duysen started renovating it with more recent changes being made by Friedman. Its color scheme synergizes with the RH One’s and includes wire-brushed Europan oak, Carrara marble, Italian leather, lacquer, and stainless steel. Amenities include a sky lounge, three sunbathing areas, an outdoor gym, a swim platform, and a firepit.

The RH Three seats up to eight guests and will be available to charter in the Caribbean and the Mediterranean. Similarly, the RH One and RH Two –a Gulfstream G550 jet–will be available for charter through RH’s booking portal, the World of RH, set to launch later this year.

“Nobody has ever tried to make the climb that we are trying to make…We do what we love with people we love for people who love what we do,” said Friedman. While that statement is certainly a mouthful, Friedman has loads of ambition and confidence in what he’s doing. With a private jet and yacht both on the horizon, it seems like there’s a clear vision worth admiring.
